oil painting and mixed media

A cold wax oil painting is an oil painting mixed with a viscous wax instead of turpentine. The wax makes the paint have more body and texture, dry quicker and creates a matte finish. The painting is created by layering paint and scraping back to reveal colors beneath top surface.

You can treat the artwork as you would any other oil painting. You don’t need to use glass when you frame the work and you can ship or hang the artwork without the environmental concerns that wax encaustic would have.
